Scene

05/20/2023

There is no scene. I don’t know if there will be something centralized like it was at Fort Thunder in Providence, Alleged Gallery in NYC, late 70s punk in Los Angeles or Mission School in San Francisco. I can’t make a claim for that or say that a scene is what we need right now, or that that’s the right way to approach current discussions of decentralization. All the places I previously mentioned had a role in creating a hub where art of a defining period was shown and made, I also think a lot about the Beautiful Losers documentary in sharing this role too. I think we are currently in a defining moment where art has never been more free, the internet serves as a reminder the way dada did in that everything is up for grabs, the stakes in self expression are not as high as we actually think. This is a presentation that intends to give people something to look forward to. We are in an incredibly rapid and intense moment that feels uneasy and I think this is a defining transitional period for the United States, I would rather be a try hard than not. We don’t know what the future holds but we can do what we can now.
